battle over a proposed North Lake Tahoe development. About 50,000
acres, including Brockway Summit, would be protected, while 775 acres
adjacent to Northstar at Tahoe Resort would be developed.

a lovely neighborhood bar with peanut shells on the ground, dogs at
various tables, burlesque paintings on the wall, and a decent set of

Kezar Stadium
(opened 1925, reopened 1990)
Following
a bequeath by Mary A. Kezar (1859-1922) and additional funds from the
City and County of San Francisco, Kezar Stadium opened with a two-mile
footrace between two top Finnish athletes. The 1928 championship game
between SF Polytechnic and Lowell hosted over 50,000 attendees, which
remains the record for any high school football game in northern
California. Both the Raiders and the 49ers started their existence at
Kezar; in fact, the 1970 NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and
Cowboys was the final NFL game played there. In 1990, a rebuilt stadium
featured about 85% fewer seats and a new eight-lane track.
