Tucked onto a bustling street in the Beaches district, we ducked into here in the midst of a free jazz festival that puts the Fillmore version to shame. The ramen had a delectable texture and broth.

In the historic Distillery District, one such distillery rose from the ashes in 2011. You can have a sake tasting flight or sake-based ice cream. Beware - only a few seats exist at the small counter. One way around this issue is taking a tour, which includes a full tasting.

Prison Radio. This production studio, based in San Francisco, generates content for films, television, and radio. The general focus is on commentary produced by prisoners. It's one of the ventures of the Redwood Justice Fund, which began in 1995.
