Randy's Guide CCCXXVII (327)

White lips, pale face
Breathing in snowflakes
Burnt lungs, sour taste
Light's gone, day's end
Struggling to pay rent
Long nights, strange men.

Bay Area Quote
"We want to assure you: we don't have plans to close stores.... We're still Fresh & Easy, open for business with everything that you enjoy about our store, with even more exciting things to come."
 - Recent memo from the Fresh & Easy Team
"I think a lot of people throw more trash out here because it's a vacant lot. I'd like a store [on South Van Ness Ave] because I am a cook and it would be convenient to get certain groceries there."
 - Joe Pham, Mission resident
"Whilst the business has many positives, its journey to scale and acceptable returns will take too long relative to other opportunities. I have therefore decided to conduct a strategic review of Fresh & Easy, with all options under consideration."
 - Philip Clarke, CEO of Tesco PLC, Fresh & Easy's parent

Bring lots of cash, don't be in a rush, love seafood. It's quite simple, really. Anthony Bourdain has even stopped by. The business, which has thrived since 1912, offers up the best clam chowder in town. You'll also find delicious seafood cocktails and salads. 4-1/2 stars, 1212 reviews

Such a cool idea. For seven years, Urban Tilth has worked to bring agriculture to urban areas of Richmond and San Pablo. The program has partnered with schools, nonprofits, corporations, and government and now coordinates 12 small farms and three churches. The Greenway Community Garden, in the heart of the Iron Triangle, and the Kennedy High Farm and Garden are two great examples. Earlier this month, Richmond High hosted a student-run salad bar for lunch by using harvested lettuce and lemons, and student-made salad dressings.

Previous organizations Randy's Guide has spotlighted and donated: Common Ground Relief, LYRIC, Aldea Inc., Glide Memorial, City CarShare, Maitri, Loaves and Fishes, Friends of the Urban Forest, Farm Sanctuary, Bay Area Community Services, Blue Energy, My New Red Shoes, College Track, Foundation for the People of Burma, Vital Life Services, Little Angel Fund, San Francisco Health Services Coalition, Natural Resources Defense Council, Bay Localize, San Francisco Women Against Rape, Sustainable Conservation, Ashoka, Old Skool Cafe, Darfur Sister Schools, Rebuilding Together San Francisco, Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center, Urban Solutions, San Francisco Suicide Prevention, The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Shanti, Curry Without Worry, SF Neighborhood Theater Foundation, La Cocina, Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Northern California, The Bike Kitchen, First Graduate, Lazarex Cancer Foundation (Amy C), KQED (88.5 FM), FabMo Creativity Center; Duboce/Valencia Fire Relief; and The Coming Home Project.
