Randy's Guide CCCXXVI (326)

Oh, sometimes
I get a good feeling, yeah
I get a feeling that
I never, never, never, never had before
No, no
I get a good feeling, yeah.

Bay Area Quote
"We're desperate for help, but... (stop-and-frisk) criminalizes everyone. We need to redirect our focus to these programs that are getting shut down because of lack of funding."
 - Jessica Hollie, Fruitvale resident
"Our congregation in the city has experienced crime and death. We want to appeal to the city council tonight to hire those that are needed."
 - David Kiteley, pastor at Shiloh Church in Oakland
"Any police department in America that tries to function without some form of stop-and-frisk, or whatever terminology they use, is doomed to failure."
 - William Bratton, newly hired consultant to the Oakland Police Dept.

Not far from two BART stops is this Cambodian restaurant, family-run since 1986. It screams fresh, clean, and aromatic. The traop ang dish (sauteed eggplant, shrimp, and minced pork) is one of the best in the Bay Area. Other fan favorites appear to be crunchy green beans, lemongrass pork, and sweet basil fried rice. A second location is in the Laurel District near Mills College. 4-1/2 stars - 400 reviews (Chinatown); 4 stars - 169 reviews (Laurel)

Good luck getting a seat here these days. It quietly opened back in the winter of 2007, but now word has spread via 7x7, GQ, and Food & Wine. You'll find 24 relatively obscure beers on tap, plus about 180 others in bottle. Don't despair if you hate beer, for there are also quite a few German-Austrian wine selections, as well as decent snacks in the form of enormous fondue pretzels and crispy frites. 4 stars - 1418 reviews

Such a cool idea. For seven years, Urban Tilth has worked to bring agriculture to urban areas of Richmond and San Pablo. The program has partnered with schools, nonprofits, corporations, and government and now coordinates 12 small farms and three churches. The Greenway Community Garden, in the heart of the Iron Triangle, and the Kennedy High Farm and Garden are two great examples. Earlier this month, Richmond High hosted a student-run salad bar for lunch by using harvested lettuce and lemons, and student-made salad dressings.
