Twenty years later, Kris Roe remains the lead singer. Others have come and gone, as the band peaked with its remake of "The Boys of Summer" in 2003. Their current tour plays the entire second album, with stops including Fresno, Sacramento, Boise, Portland, and San Diego. Locally, they'll be at Bottom of the Hill on July 21, with California and Belle Noire opening.

The quiet unassuming sibling to Phnom Penh House, this find has been dishing up Cambodian food since 1993. I'd definitely recommend an appetizer (either the non-fried lawt or the fried imperial rolls), followed by either stuffed chicken wings, or the eggplant/shrimp/ground pork combo so tasty at Phnom Penh.

Conveniently situated near the Fox Theater and the 19th Street BART station, Diving Dog has (at least for me) been a well-curated brewhouse, without the option of trying one of their in-house beers. Apparently, you can also brew your own batches on site - a plus to all the home brewers out there. Prices typically are in the $5-8 range for 12-16 ounces.

Used as a sewer during the early days of Oakland, the Bay estuary became a lake and wildlife refuge during the early 1870s once tidal flow was controlled using a dam. Children's Fairyland, one of Walt Disney's inspirations for Disneyland, was built on the north shore in 1950. The necklace of lights around the lake have been lit from 1925-41, then again from 1987-present. Renovation work has been ongoing over the past decade, with significant efforts to improve pedestrian walkways, bike lanes, landscaping, and the reconnection to the Bay.

The quiet unassuming sibling to Phnom Penh House, this find has been dishing up Cambodian food since 1993. I'd definitely recommend an appetizer (either the non-fried lawt or the fried imperial rolls), followed by either stuffed chicken wings, or the eggplant/shrimp/ground pork combo so tasty at Phnom Penh.

Conveniently situated near the Fox Theater and the 19th Street BART station, Diving Dog has (at least for me) been a well-curated brewhouse, without the option of trying one of their in-house beers. Apparently, you can also brew your own batches on site - a plus to all the home brewers out there. Prices typically are in the $5-8 range for 12-16 ounces.

Used as a sewer during the early days of Oakland, the Bay estuary became a lake and wildlife refuge during the early 1870s once tidal flow was controlled using a dam. Children's Fairyland, one of Walt Disney's inspirations for Disneyland, was built on the north shore in 1950. The necklace of lights around the lake have been lit from 1925-41, then again from 1987-present. Renovation work has been ongoing over the past decade, with significant efforts to improve pedestrian walkways, bike lanes, landscaping, and the reconnection to the Bay.
