Music
I don’t know how to let you go
Thoughts are racing, but my heart is slow
Be still, obey
Please leave, please stay
-- "Speed of Sound," by Alzara & Brother Spellbinder (183 views; Oct '13 upload)

Reader Alzara G. and her band play "cabaret-folk rock with a dreamy, old-world ache and a modern melodic edge." Sounds about right. The group, which originated in 2012, will next perform at the SOMArts Cultural Center tomorrow evening as part of a Dia de los Muertos event.

News of the Week
The 25,000 LED lights used for the nightly show on the western span of the Bay Bridge could go dark unless $4 million is raised by the end of this year. It's a collaborative effort among the Bay Area Toll Authority, Caltrans, and Illuminate the Arts.

"Nobody is using the word permanent, but we'd like to see the Bay Lights become a long-term institution."
-- John Goodwin, Bay Area Toll Authority spokesman

"We're going to need the generosity of people coming in big, while still connecting with people who want to give at a smaller level."
-- Ben Davis, Illuminate the Arts president

Yelp

We stumbled across this following a Fourth of July parade through downtown Redwood City. The owner clearly has great New England lobster connections because the lobster rolls are phenomenal. It's been booming in business for nearly nine years now. The clam chowder isn't too shabby either. 4 stars - 1728 reviews

Two years later, this spacious (when accounting for outdoor seating) brewery is a gem. It specializes in a relatively hard-to-find style: English cask-conditioned ales. They're appropriately served in 20-ounce imperial pint glasses too! Check in on Yelp or stop by for happy hour when beers are a bargain at $5. 4 stars - 89 reviews

Nooks & Crannies
Grandview Park
San Francisco, CA

What vistas! You have a 360-degree view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Twin Peaks, downtown, and Lake Merced. The hike up is via stairways and clearly defined paths, and it's really much less crowded than the similar view at Twin Peaks. Pair it with the Moraga Steps for a full Golden Gate Heights experience.
