Fans would line up to see each home run, or to gobble up caps whenever they arrived in stock. McGwire has since moved from Huntington Beach to Irvine, but The Abbey remains in vibrant form. Mark McGwire, during his home-run chase of 1998, helped put this tiny gastropub on the map by wearing a cap for every press conference. Fans would line up to see each home run, or to gobble up caps whenever they arrived in stock. McGwire has since moved from Huntington Beach to Irvine, but The Abbey remains in vibrant form. I guess I feel fortunate that I had the chance to ride this a couple of years ago. The past year, the two funicular cars have been forbidden by regulators from carrying passengers due to safety concerns. The 298-feet trip compares to one that started in 1901 about a 1/2 block away.
