On a cool Friday evening, I snagged the final OpenTable reservation for two and got seated in a lovely corner quasi-booth. You could see the whole scene work like magic, the few servers, the cooks, the chatty patrons. It wasn't super noisy or closely packed together, two major complaints I have for some of the newer restaurants in town. The beef-pork polpette (which turned out to be meatballs) were a standout, as was the delightfully zesty nettles pizza. Of course we added an egg. Overall, this is a great value for a upscale casual evening out. 4 stars - 665 reviews

History
Ella Hill Hutch
(1924-1981)
The seventh child of twelve, Ms. Hutch moved from Florida to San Francisco during the 1940s. She quickly joined numerous activist causes, ranging from the Fillmore Tenants Council to the Labor Youth League. She became politically active during the Kennedy presidential campaign, and ascended to the Democratic County Central Committee and BART board. She became the first African-American female elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977 (with Harvey Milk and Dan White also newly elected that year). She passed away while in office. The Ella Hill Hutch Community Center in the Western Addition is named after her.

Charity: Prevent Blindness. The Northern California chapters in San Francisco and Redding have screened over one million individuals for vision since 1966. Recently, they partnered with fuseproject to launch See Well to Learn, which provides free eye exams and glasses to Bay Area students.

1. Clement Street Block Party
Thursday, 6-8pm
I have fond memories of living walking distance to the Inner Richmond. Tonight, merchants between Arguello and 7th Street, such as Toy Boat Dessert Cafe and Green Apple Books, are luring customers in with free wine, beer, ice cream, meatball sliders.. and of course merchandise discounts.
2. Holiday Unveilings
Embarcadero Center Lighting Party: Friday, 4-7pm
Macy's Holiday Windows: Friday, 5-6pm
Bayview Opera House: Friday, 5-7:30pm
Pier 39: Saturday-Sunday, noon-6:30pm
Justin Herman Plaza and the adjacent Embarcadero Center will host a Disney on Ice performance, lighting ceremony, pony rides, and more to usher in the holiday season. Meanwhile, in Union Square, SF SPCA and Macy's team up again to promote animal adoptions. Former Mayor Willie Brown, Beach Blanket Babylon, and 49er LaMichael James will be on hand. Supervisor Malia Cohen will light the Bayview Opera House tree, the Museum of Craft and Design offers mini wreaths, and area vendors will have booths in the yard. Finally, Pier 39 hosts Radio Disney Bay Area, Disneyland characters, and Bay Area choruses for the tree lighting there.
3. Happy Birthday, San Jose!

Founded 236 years ago, San Jose now stands as the tenth most populated city in the U.S. Step into the past in San Pedro Square. Historic tours and food tastings require money, but live music and dancing do not.
