Sun's getting hotter
I no longer sleep
Well I stare out the window

Issue of the Week
For the first time in 28 years, a baseball team has won a formal protest. The San Francisco Giants claimed
the Chicago Cubs ground crew mishandled the rain delay efforts,
ultimately forcing the game to be called in the Cubs' favor. The game
will be resumed today at 2pm PST.
"I thought we had a strong case. I'm just thankful and grateful that they were open minded."
-- Bruce Bochy, San Francisco Giants manager
"The
last thing you want is a playoff team feeling bitter about the result
here. And obviously it was caused by our organization. It's a good
outcome."
-- Jed Hoyer, Chicago Cubs general manager
"The
inability to deploy the tarp appropriately was caused by the failure to
properly wrap and spool the tarp after its last use. As a result, the
groundskeeping crew was unable to properly deploy the tarp after the
rain worsened."
-- Joe Torre, Major League Baseball executive VP of baseball operations

Often
touted as the best dim sum in the Bay Area, this huge palace gets
filled to the brim with patrons every weekend. The wait can easily
exceed one hour, in fact. Expect all of the usual favorite dumplings,
noodle and rice dishes, and delicacies such as chicken feet. 3-1/2 stars

Not
quite Daly City, but then again what would you select for nightlife
there? This is a strange addition to Crocker-Amazon area, going on
nearly three years now. You'll find nine rotating craft taps, plus
bottles of beer and wine. Rotating menu is small but looks good.
Definitely a nice complement to the nearby Broken Record. 4-1/2 stars -

Free Activities
1. Block Parties!
- 20th Street Block Party: Saturday, noon-6pm
- North of Panhandle Block Party: Saturday, 10am-6pm
- Sunday Streets (Mission): Sunday, 11am-4pm
The
heart of the Mission (20th Street and Harrison) hosts a block party
with two music stages, a food workshop tent, and plenty of support from
area businesses. Rogue Wave and Cayucas headline the group of nine
bands. And, in shameless self-promotion of my block, we're featuring a
music stage, BBQ by my local corner store, and ample kiddie activities.
Lastly, Sunday Streets takes over Valencia from McCoppin to 26th, as
well as 18th Street from Guerrero to Treat.
2. Oakland Chinatown Streetfest: Saturday-Sunday, 10am-5:30pm
The
festival is BART-accessible from 12th Street Oakland, and it spans from
7th to 11th Street, and Broadway to Harrison. Two entertainment stages -
one for area bands, one for cultural groups such as lion dancing - will
be complemented by over 200 booths.
3. Berkeley Move-In Weekend
- Golden Bear Day: Saturday, 2-4pm
- Caltopia: Sunday-Monday, 10am-4pm
Meet
Cal student-athletes, including the entire football team, before they
get taken down by the Cardinal this school year. Corporate sponsors
usher in a wave of free goodies to the students and area community. Free
musical entertainment from campus taiko and a cappella groups, as well
as free haircuts and massages, round out the festivities.
