Historic milestones: 16 years since the arrest of O.J. Simpson; 38 years since the infamous Nixon-Haldeman Watergate scandal tapes; 71 years since the last public guillotining in France; and 117 years since the acquittal of Lizzie Borden; 137 years since Susan B. Anthony's illegal attempt to vote.

Local News
San Francisco appears likely to become the first city in the U.S. to require the posting of radiation levels emitted from mobile phones. In a preliminary vote, the Board was 10-1 in favor of the proposal, and Mayor Gavin Newsom is a major proponent for the measure. www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/06/16/MNIT1DVPKE.DTL

Movies {domestic revenues through June 13}
"The Karate Kid," an update to the beloved '80s classic, blew away expectations with $55.7 million [3663 theatres; $15,197 per theatre]. Another nod the 1980s, "The A-Team," brought in $25.7 million [3535 theatres; $7,262 per theatre]. "Robin Hood" has moved past $100 million, "Shrek Forever After" crossed the $200 million mark, and "Iron Man 2" is now over $300 million.

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (R): Romance; about a misunderstood musical genius who has an affair with the famed designer

Jonah Hex (PG-13): Action; about a bounty hunter who must track down his oldest enemy; co-starring Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, and Megan Fox

Lovers of Hate (NR): Comedy-drama; about two brothers reunited and then divided by a girl they both love

The Oath (NR): Documentary; about two brothers-in-law whose al-Qaeda associations during the 1990s has since led to divergent paths

DVD Pick - Whip It (PG-13): I'm really not sure why this film got so utterly ignored. Ellen Page ("Juno") is once again enchanting, this time as a small-town teenage girl who decides to join a roller-derby team in Austin. Director Drew Barrymore has a fun bit-part in the film, and Jimmy Fallon tries hard to corral the independent-minded ladies to victory. Domestic box office: $13.0 million; foreign box office: $3.6 million.
