Randy's Guide CCXLI (241)

Historic milestones: 16 years since the first release of Java; 31 years since the release of Pac-Man; 32 years since the White Night riots; 34 years since the release of Star Wars; 84 years since Charles Lindbergh's historic nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean; and 138 years since Levi Strauss' blue jeans patent.

Local Restaurant Pick
Yamo
3406 18th St. (at Mission)

11 bar stools and 3-4 Asian ladies cooking up $6 plates are what you'll find at this Burmese dive. I highly recommend the house noodles in any dish you select, and the soups are filling and delightfully spicy. www.yelp.com/biz/yamo-san-francisco (755 reviews; 4 stars)

Change for Change
Charity: Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Northern California. Founded in 1973, the JCCCNC typically offers programs, sports leagues, events, and community services for over 80 different national non-profits. The March earthquake and tsunami has led the JCCCNC to start the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, which will donate 100% of proceeds to a three-prong approach of immediate relief, mid-term recovery, and long-term rebuilding. The goal is $1 million; to date, the cause has raised over $390,000. www.causes.com/campaigns/97128?cause_id=590211
