Local News
For those under-employed and unemployed, consider the U.S. Census Bureau for some good-paying work. The 2010 Census, as mandated by the Constitution, is rapidly approaching, and the Santa Clara County (in addition to other counties) is starting the application process for community leaders, recruiting specialists, and census takers. www.mercurynews.com/ci_11523175

Change for Change
Charity to consider: Bay Localize. The Oakland nonprofit, which promotes regional self-reliance, is working with Glide Memorial Church to produce vegetables atop its Tenderloin offices. Kale, turnips, carrots, and radishes are currently in full production. www.baylocalize.org

Donate through the nonprofit's Web site or your corporate donation program.

Previous organizations Randy's Guide has spotlighted and donated: Common Ground Relief, LYRIC, Aldea Inc., Glide Memorial, City CarShare, Maitri, Loaves and Fishes, Friends of the Urban Forest, Farm Sanctuary, Bay Area Community Services, Blue Energy, My New Red Shoes, College Track, Foundation for the People of Burma, Vital Life Services, Little Angel Fund, San Francisco Health Services Coalition, and Natural Resources Defense Council.

Bay Area Weekend Weather
The heat is gone. Slight chance of rain for the foreseeable future.

Highs: mid-50s
Lows: low-40s (inland) to upper-40s (coast)

Environmental Tips
Switch one staple of your diet from conventional to organic. Choose something like eggs, milk, or apples that won't challenge your budget but will be a repeated purchase. The food should taste better and will not contain the chemicals found to be harmful to human health.

Previous:
Join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), and receive periodic shipments of local, organic produce at your doorstep. Some good Bay Area farms with delivery programs include Full Belly Farm, Marin Sun Farms, and Mariquita Farms.
