The Treasure Island Music Festival

For
about a year, this compact cafe has quietly built its fan base across
from Lake Merritt. I walked in on a bright Saturday morning with no
wait. Of course, I ordered the pork belly hash, so tasty and greasy. You
can find seating for about 15 outside and 20 inside. I suspect quite a few take-out requests are taken at the deli counter for sandwiches. 4-1/2 stars - 109 reviews

to BART sits this swanky corner bar with a healthy dose of grilled
cheese orders. It's conveniently near both the Fox and Paramount
Theaters, as well as a host of restaurants. Decent happy hour, not the

History
Edward D. Baker
(1811-1861)
Born
to a Quaker family in London, the Bakers moved to Philadelphia, then a
utopian community in Indiana, and finally a border town in the Illinois
territory. Edward was admitted to the bar in 1830, and married in 1831.
He served as a Whig representative in Illinois, before serving in the
Mexican-American War. He moved his family to San Francisco and joined
the Law & Order Party as a reaction to the vigilante actions of the
San Francisco Committee of Vigilance. Edward was controversially elected
Senator of the new Oregon state in 1860, but joined the Civil War
effort shortly thereafter. He was the only sitting U.S. Senator to be
killed during the Civil War. His body rests in San Francisco National
Cemetery. Baker Street, which runs from Buena Vista Park to Marina
Green, is named after him.

highly recommend using Highway 1 and going early if you want to avoid
the crowds. J.T. Snow, who attended my high school and served many good
years at first base for the Giants, is the Grand Marshal for the
Saturday parade. Pie-eating contests, pancake breakfasts, and a 5/10K
run/walk are among the highlights.

It's
hard to believe this has run for 10 years now. This time, festivities
start at the Market Street Railway Museum and finish in the Lower
Haight. Seven different dance groups are clustered around either the
start or the finish. Ride MUNI or a bike.
3. Lit Crawl
Saturday, 6-9:30pm
The
weather should really cooperate. Choose from 83 live-reading events
spread in the Mission from Market Street to 25th St., at venues ranging
from a barber shop to a police station.
